From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers growing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of this adventure follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and revealed the initial group of characters who will separate from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might appear out of place, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.
Casimir then settled his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, desires revenge.
- Kattigan has experience in the region and warns that it is a nasty place.
- Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- But, their position as important members in the influential clan could enable the party access places they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that govern the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- Teor is marked for death by the family.
This means them little choice but to head to the remote area in search of the antagonist.
